Dr. Oguamanam is a full professor at the University of Ottawa Faculty of Law, as well as a consultant to a variety of organizations in the areas of intellectual property, technology and innovation, biotechnology, agricultural law, food security, traditional knowledge, and global knowledge governance from a development perspective.

Agriculture &
Biodiversity

Policies surrounding agriculture and biodiversity have global economic and legal impacts. Dr. Oguamanam’s research focuses on food security, farmers’ rights, access and benefit sharing over genetic resources, environmental law, and biodiversity conservation.

 
 

IP & Knowledge Governance

He has written and published several articles on intellectual property law-making, biotechnology (including agricultural biotechnology), the policy and legal intersections of traditional and hi-tech agricultural practices, and documentation and digitization of local knowledge systems.

 
 

Health Law &
Medical Ethics

He is an expert on complementary and alternative medicine (CAM), traditional knowledge and medicine, nutrition, and public health law and policy. He seeks to enhance the understanding around medical ethics.
